I am a graduate of the Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. I specialized in the Cardiac Surgery Clinic of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at AHEPA Hospital and became a PhD candidate at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. I completed my postgraduate training at the Oxford Heart Centre in Great Britain. I am Professor of Cardiac Surgery at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinic of the General Hospital of Thessaloniki AHEPA. In general, I have been a member of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for over 30 years.
Regarding my scientific work, I participate as a coordinator and as a lecturer in a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Medical School and interdepartmental courses. I have authored 6 scientific books (3 international foreign language editions and 3 Greek ones), as well as chapters in international and Greek books. I have 76 publications in international scientific journals (PubMed, Scopus) and 24 in Greek journals. I have organized 3 international conferences as President, while I participated in the organization of more than 30 Greek conferences. I have given over 100 lectures at international and Greek conferences. I participated in more than 20 research projects in Greece and abroad. This research work has been recognized with awards internationally.
Regarding my administrative experience, I have been managing the Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at AHEPA Hospital for the last 6 years and I am the Director of the Postgraduate Studies Program of the Medical Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. I am the Director of the Surgical Department and I am the Deputy Director of the Medical Service of the AHEPA General Hospital. I am the President of the National Examination Committee of the specialty of Thoracic Surgery for Northern Greece. I am the Founder and the first President of the Minimal Invasive Extracorporeal Technologies International Society (MiECTiS). I served as Secretary General of the Hellenic Society of Thoracic - Cardiac - Vascular Surgeons for 7 years and I am the President of the Society's Education Committee. I served as a member of the Committee for European and Educational Programs of the Administration of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki for four years, as well as a repeated member of various Committees and the General Assembly of the Medical Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. At the same time, during the last decade I have participated as a member of various Committees of the Ministry of Health, the Central Health Council and the Health Procurement Committee.
