The Postgraduate Program "Advanced Cardiopulmonary Practice – Master in Cardiovascular Perfusion Science" is organized by the Cardiothoracic Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. It is a pioneering interdisciplinary postgraduate program, which provides high-level theoretical and practical training in the applied physiology of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems. It studies the application of modern biomedical technology in cardiovascular and respiratory support, as well as in the treatment of cardiac and respiratory diseases. At the same time, it promotes knowledge and the development of research in the field of extracorporeal circulation and the technology of devices used in cardiac surgery.
Two directions are provided:
a) Advanced cardiopulmonary support concerns the application of modern biomedical technology in the support of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems as well as in the treatment of cardiac and respiratory diseases.
B) Perfusion concerns the promotion of knowledge and the development of research in the field of extracorporeal circulation and the technology of devices used in cardiac surgery.
In addition to theoretical training, the postgraduate program places particular emphasis on the practical training of postgraduate students. Depending on the direction, the following is selected:
a) practical training in advanced cardiac and respiratory support in university departments that collaborate with the Program,
b) practical training in perfusion science with a logbook of cardiac procedures performed with extracorporeal circulation.
Graduates of the Postgraduate Program "Advanced Cardiopulmonary Practice – Master in Cardiovascular Perfusion Science" are eligible to acquire the professional title of Clinical Perfusionist, in accordance with the relevant legislation (Β΄ 4972/2018). At the same time, it is the only certified program in Greece by the corresponding European Society (European Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion).
