Academic qualifications and positions
He received his Medical degree from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) in 1988 and the title of Specialty in Thoracic Surgery in 1999. He obtained the title of Doctor from the Medical School of the NKUA in 2001 and the title of Fellow of the European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery (FEBTCS) in 2003, while he was recertified as Fellow of the European Board of Thoracic Surgery (FEBTS) in 2014.
He has served at the rank of Curator B’ at the Thoracic Surgery Clinic of the University Hospital of Larissa (2002-2006) and then at the Cardiothoracic Surgery Clinic of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki from 2006 to the present, with progressive advancement from the rank of Lecturer to rank of Associate Professor in 2017.
He has served as Special Secretary of the Hellenic Society of Thoracic-Cardiac-Vascular Surgeons (2010-2014), President of the Thoracic Surgery Working Group (2012-2018) and of the Medical Ethics and Ethics Committee (2014-2018) of the same Society, Regent of the European Society of Thoracic Surgeons in Greece (2010-2014) and regular member of the board of directors of AHEPA Hospital (2014-present), as well as of the scientific council of AHEPA Hospital (2014-2018).
Research and teaching work
His research and, by extension, writing work includes more than 80 publications that appear in the international Scopus database (Scopus author ID: 6603926648), more than 40 publications in Greek medical journals, the writing of more than 15 chapters in international and Greek medical books, as well as the writing and editing of the only book on thoracic surgery in the Greek language. More than 300 announcements are also mentioned in international and Greek conferences.
His educational work includes courses for undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervision of diploma theses and doctoral theses, courses in educational programs of surgical clinics and medical companies, training in workshops and finally courses in nursing specialties or nursing educational programs. He has participated with more than 80 presentations and lectures in round tables of Greek and international conferences, workshops and postgraduate courses.
Other work
Includes participation in various committees of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Department of Medicine of the School of Health Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and the AHEPA Hospital, as well as participation in the organizational and scientific committee of many medical conferences. He has extensive editorial work with participation in the editorial board of many international medical journals and as a reviewer of papers in many international journals, as well as in major international thoracic surgery conferences. Also mentioned is his voluntary participation as a spectator doctor in the "Athens 2004" Olympics and as a race doctor in international rowing and sailing competitions organized by the Thessaloniki Nautical Club.
